As producer of The Time Machine, Ashley Starr found herself heading off to Japan for a last minute fun filled adventure while the remainder of the radio staff had to fend for themselves. Air talent Summer Blue was running late (Hanging out at the beach perhaps?) which left radio co-host Michael McCartney alone in the studio until she arrived. This afternoon FM broadcast featured brand new covers from Michael Carpenter doing "They Don't Know" (Kirsty MacColl's song that was a hit for Tracy Ullman and featured Paul McCartney in her music video) plus Butch Walker took a cool stab at Taylor Swift's hit song "You Belong With Me". Both Butch Walker and Michael Carpenter have had fun recording covers in the past and the two new songs on this aircheck are toe tappers. New music from Weezer, Taylor Swift, Jonathan Coulton and Mark Hudson can also be heard on the broadcast.

Singer-songwriter Anny Celsi was a guest on The Time Machine last week. We've enjoyed playing her latest album "Tangle-Free World" on the air the past few weeks and it was a pleasure having Anny on the broadcast to discuss her music . Her album is filled with talented artists that have been a part of our playlists over the years like; Robbie Rist, Evie Sands, Teresa Cowles, Adam Marsland, Rick Gallego and Nelson Bragg. Nelson also produced the album and even does a duet with Anny on the 1967 classic Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra song "Some Velvet Morning". Steve Refling joins the mix as well as Probyn Gregory and Nick Walusko. Phil Parlapiano, Amy Farris, Carl Byron, Shawn Bryant, Dave Sutton and Jonny DuFresne are just a few more gifted musicians that put their craft on the album. Other musicians add to the sound of this incredible listening experience.

Paul McCartney's brand new song for the upcoming film "Everybody's Fine" with Robert DeNiro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Katherine Moennig, Melissa Leo and Sam Rockwell is also heard on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast. The film will be released this December. Songs from other artists also heard on this radio broadcast include both Rachael Yamagata and Eytan Mirsky, who are not strangers to having their music fill the soundtracks of motion pictures. Rounding out the radio show are songs from Trooper, Ben Lee and the latest from the prolific Jonathan Coulton.

Singer-songwriter Laurie Biagini's music has been a part of our broadcast the past few years and she was so taken away with Anny Celsi's album that she decided to share a review of "Tangle-Free World":

Every once in awhile, an album comes along that impacts me such to a point that I simply have to write about it. I purchased Anny Celsi's album "Tangle-Free World" through iTunes on the weekend and after the first few bars of the title track, this album grabbed my attention, and I turned the volume, up - way up! By the time I got to the third track I decided that it's time to put on my writer hat and review this gem of a record.

Ever hear a song that literally makes you feel electric? Something so beautiful and moving that you feel kind of numb and awe-struck? Put on the title track of "Tangle Free World" and if you're like me, expect a wonderful auditory experience. Beautiful melody, catchy, exquisite harmonies, and a rhythm track that would make for perfect driving music. This song will head to the front of the list of my favorites to listen to while driving fast along scenic highways.

"Thanksgiving in Hollywood" is another favorite on this album. Starts out with a bit of a melancholy introduction then picks up the pace with plenty of jangly guitars (which I love) and some very cool organ and lead guitar contributing to a wonderful folk-pop sound. The mood is a bit dark and mysterious, yet uplifting at the same time. One of my favorite tracks on the album.

Another favorite is "First Love Freezes", a beautiful melody and Anny's soft and haunting vocal is perfect for this very pretty ballad. Again, complemented by lush harmony vocals and I absolutely love the guitar work in this one.

"The Night She Learned to Drive" is a wonderful tune that has such heartfelt lyrics, and is performed with a vibe of re-assurance and hope. The song has the perfect feel to match the theme of the lyrics. It's another song that features a traveling rhythm that would be great to listen to on a road trip. A beautiful example of classic Americana in its most perfect form.

Also add "Piece of Heaven" to my list of favorite tracks on this album - a fun, upbeat jangly pop tune with a classic Monkee-esque sound from my favorite pop era. This one will not only get your toes-tapping, but you may easily find yourself singing along to this very catchy track.

"Sally Go Round the Roses", a fantastic cover of the Jaynetts 1963 hit, is pure fun. Pop music legend Evie Sands and Teresa Cowles provide backing vocals which add another dimension to the overall girl-group feel of this great song. The sixties vibe is well-preserved in the production, but with a cleaner, fresher sound. The "tangle-free" outtro at the end was quite a pleasant surprise as well!

I previously had somewhat limited interest in Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra's "Some Velvet Morning", but the version on this album so beautifully performed by Anny Celsi and Nelson Bragg, has garnered repeated listens. Their flawless soulful vocals, combined with a beautifully performed instrumental track have resulted in a new interest in this classic for this listener.

This album has so many dimensions to it that really give the record an overall dynamic of several moods and vibes that intertwine together so well, yet keeping a smooth path or 'tangle-free' experience for the listener. Anny really shines in this album. A must-have for your collection, this album has been added to my favorites and will inevitably get extensive play from this fan.

International recording artist, film actress and one of Broadway's superstars, Lea Salonga, was our guest today. She stopped by the WILD 105.5 FM studios to discuss her latest concert performance on Maui with radio host Jay J on KPMW. Lea also brought along her three year old daughter whose innocence at the microphone was adorable. Lea talked with Jay J about her music, stage and film work along with some of the proceeds of this Friday night's concert going towards Typhoon Relief for the Philippines.

Brian Ray Performance and Interview on The Time Machine

Rocker and singer-songwriter Brian Ray was our guest DJ on The Time Machine this past month. Not only did he spin some cool songs from a variety of artists while sitting in for Summer Blue (who was having a well deserved vacation in China), he also brought along a guitar to perform a couple of songs on the air. Bassist Rich Ray joined the musical festivities.

Since the release of Brian's first solo debut album "Mondo Magneto" back in 2006, we've been spinning his rocker "Vinyl" in heavy rotation. We've played it so much on the radio that it's sort of become The Time Machine's unofficial theme song. We may have actually started playing the song back in 2005...but that will be our little secret.

Brian performed a stripped down acoustic version of "Vinyl" for the broadcast in addition to performing a song titled "I Found You" from his upcoming album "This Way Up".

Brian also played a few of his new songs from his forthcoming release that are pure pop bliss. Those songs made their worldwide broadcast debut which is a treat for us since Brian just got off a monster tour playing both guitar and bass for Paul McCartney.

In addition to playing some cool tunes from Paul McCartney, Brian also played some classics from The Beatles on the radio show. He also featured brand new music from Harper Simon (Paul Simon's son) and MGMT.

As guest DJ, Brian also brought wonderful music to the radio show from his former boss and musical legend, Etta James, along with artists as diverse as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Badfinger, Smokey Robinson, Wings, The Bangles, Lewis Taylor, John Lennon, Conrad Korsch, George Harrison, Them with Van Morrison, The Beach Boys, Ringo Starr, and Shakira. Summer Blue's radio co-host, Michael McCartney, added to the music mix with the latest from Brian's band mate in Paul McCartney's band, guitarist Rusty Anderson. Rusty's song "Julia Roberts" was featured along with songs from Jeff Lynne, The Smith Bros., Heart and Rachael Yamagata.

Dave Stephens Performance and Interview on The Time Machine

After numerous appearances the past few years as our featured guest artist, rocker and singer-songwriter Dave Stephens returned to The Time Machine with guitar in hand and a stack of albums to be a guest DJ. This time around, not only did Dave perform songs on the air, he also played wonderful music as our guest DJ from artists as diverse as The Grays, Alice Peacock, L.E.O., Kim Stockwood, Billy Joel, Jayhawks, Chris Trapper, Abba, Brandi Carlile, Peter Salett, Bread, Rufus Wainwright, Robbie Dupree, Steve Ward, Keane and Steve Ward.

Summer Blue and Michael McCartney also featured new music on this Maui afternoon FM radio broadcast from Rob Bonfiglio, The Explorers Club, Paul McCartney, Chris Isaak and Mandy Moore. Producers Jenny Leong and Ashley Starr kept the show running smoothly even when Summer and Michael left Dave alone in the broadcast studio to get him lunch from Zippy's. Classic songs from other artists also heard on this radio broadcast include; Keola & Kapono Beamer, Uriah Heep, The Bee Gees, Paul & Linda McCartney, NRBQ, Melissa Manchester, Cliff Richard and a live performance from the Hollywood Television Showcase of "That Thing You Do!" from The Wonders.

The Throwdowns Interview on The Time Machine

The rockin' band The Throwdowns were on The Time Machine last week. We've enjoyed playing their energetic songs from their debut album "Don't Slow Down" since late July. After the group's songs have dominated our playlists the past few months, all four members sat in our studios along with a box of donuts that took a sugar high to a new level. Bassist Kimo Clark, drummer Ian Hollingsworth, lead guitarist Ola Shaw and guitarist/vocalist Erin Smith chatted with Ashley Starr and Michael McCartney about their music.

Ashley Starr and Michael McCartney also featured new music on this Maui afternoon FM radio broadcast from Mark Hudson, Rachael Yamagata and Kings Of Leon. New music from James Carter Cathcart's latest album "I Was Missing You" closed out the broadcast with "It's A Beautiful Thing". Soupy Sales had passed away hours earlier before the broadcast so The Time Machine spun his radio hit from 1965. Our hearts go out to his wife Trudy Carson and his two sons from his previous marriage to Barbara Fox, musicians Tony Sales and Hunt Sales. Songs from other artists also heard on this radio broadcast include; Sarah Hudson, Social Distortion, The Smith Bros., Butch Walker, Fountains Of Wayne, Liz Phair, The Major Labels and Jeff Lynne.

The Hawaiian airwaves were filled some classic AM radio hits along with a recent radio current on The Time Machine from rocker Dave Stephens. There's also comedy from Rap Replinger along with The Time Machine's Matt Burger with Michael McCartney and another episode of "Classic Rock Theater".

Anuhea Performance and Interview on The Time Machine

Singer-songwriter Anuhea returned to The Time Machine with her guitar last week. Radio host Summer Blue had just returned from a visit to China while Anuhea had just returned from Japan so it was a great time to return to the Hawaiian FM airwaves. Producer Ashley Starr sat down with Anuhea to discuss her self titled debut album along with radio co-host Michael McCartney.

Anuhea has been on our playlists the past few years with her self released "Rough Cuts" so it was a pleasure having her back in the studios now that her fully produced album has hit the music store shelves and online retailers like iTunes around the world. Her song "Right Love, Wrong Time" was selected as a featured free download on iTunes as the "Discovery of the Week" this past spring and Anuhea's album hit iTunes Top Ten downloads, leap frogging over many major label superstar aritsts on their chart. In addition, Anuhea is currently featured in the new iTunes 9 video guide that shows users how to use the new features in iTunes 9.

Summer Blue also gave spins on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast to artists; Brian Ray, Rachael Yamagata, The Throwdowns, Cobra Starship, Kings Of Leon and the brand new Michael Jackson song "This Is It" that he composed with music legend Paul Anka which was released just last week.

Another afternoon radio aircheck from Maui. The FM dial was filled with new music on The Time Machine as well as some classic songs from the past. New songs were featured on the broadcast from The Pete Best Band, Ashley Cleveland, Dave Carroll, The Throwdowns, Rachael Yamagata, Richard X. Heyman, Maxi Dunn and Cheap Perfume. Also featured is the song that this podcast used as a title with a slight addition. Joey Curatolo, Amy Miles, Chris Anderson and Charles Gansa make up the artists responsible for the faux seventies Wings selection that never fails to put smiles on the staff of The Time Machine.

Here's another Maui afternoon FM radio aircheck of The Time Machine. Michael McCartney entered the studio after body surfing at Sandbox which is an old school nickname for Wahikuli State Park. Loaded only with a shave ice the disc jockey was ready to play some really old tunes alongside some brand new ones.

Rocker Nancy Street from the band Cheap Perfume was our guest on The Time Machine last week. We've enjoyed playing their two songs "Ordinary Girls" and "Too Bad" from their forthcoming album. Brenda Martinez, Bunny, Lynn Odell, Susan Palermo along with Nancy Street have been busy recording their upcoming album. Singer-songwriter Adam Marsland is getting ready to release his first original album in five years. "Go West" is a double album from Adam Marsland (+ His Chaos Band members Kurt Medlin, Teresa Cowles and Evie Sands) and will drop on August 18th, 2009. Adam graced our airwaves with one of his new songs "When I Lied To Everyone".

Singer-songwriter Matt Hartke was our guest on The Time Machine last week. We've enjoyed playing his laid back island sounding songs from his debut album "Great Good Fortune". He's currently recording a bunch of songs for his next album with producers Mikal Blue and Andrew Williams, who between the two, have worked their magic with; Colbie Caillat, Grant Lee Buffalo, Del Shannon, Brian Setzer, Five for Fighting, Old 97’s, One Republic, Gary Jules, Alice Peacock, Rhett Miller, Garrison Starr, The Williams Brothers, Jessica Simpson, The Dream Academy and The Plimsouls. One of most played albums on the air from 2008 is "Bring On The Happy" from Rob Bonfiglio. Rob is no stranger to our playlists. Since the turn of the century, Rob's music has filled the Maui airwaves as a solo artist, a member of The Better Days, The Skies Of America and Superstone (the brainchild of rocker Ken Sharp). Rob's musical career goes further back into the 90's as a member of the RCA label band Wanderlust and his recent musical output has been featured in the soundtracks of motion pictures.

Rock and roll legend Stu Cook was a guest on The Time Machine. The bass player for Creedence Clearwater Revival shared with the Maui radio audience his work with John McFee and the late Keith Knudsen. The trio formed a band called Jackdawg but their album was never released. The super cool record label Sonic Past Music has officially released the album after nearly two decades. John McFee is no stranger to The Time Machine as guitarist for Clover, The Doobie Brothers and Southern Pacific. His fellow band member from The Doobie Brothers, Keith Knudsen, drummed some fun into the album's material by pounding those skins and complimenting Stu Cook's tremendous bass playing.

Pizza and Maui Radio Aircheck

Radio show hosts Summer Blue and Michael McCartney work up an appetite while spinning music on the FM dial. While management keeps the air conditioner cranked up to Arctic like temperatures to keep the broadcast equipment from overheating, the disc jockeys keep their long sleeves on to keep from freezing. Beach goers hit the Maui shorelines unaware that the DJs on the Hawaiian airwaves are wearing the complete opposite of swimsuits and slippers. Immediately following the program, Summer and Michael run from the air studio to the nearest pizza place to warm up after being locked up for hours on the air. Drummer David Hines wasn't available but we hope to have him on the next time the band is on the broadcast. This talented trio has been making a musical buzz in Spin and Rolling Stone. We were honored to have them perform a couple of the new songs from their upcoming album as well as "Stolen" from their recent release "Conjure".

Singer-songwriter Mandy Moore has a new album coming out this May titled "Amanda Leigh". Mike Viola produced her latest album and we've been enjoying playing a few of the songs off of the upcoming release on The Time Machine. In celebration of this wonderful collaboration, we wanted to bring back her last interview on The Time Machine after her album "Wild Hope" was released back in 2007. John Alagia produced the album with Mandy writing songs with Lori McKenna, Deb Talan and Steve Tannen from The Weepies, Chantal Kreviazuk, James Renald, Chris Holmes and Rachael Yamagata. You can actually hear Summer lose her composure after Michael starts giggling over her stated love for the band Morningwood while psyching himself up for the next song. Old school broadcasting would have referred to this as a blooper. Today's world of radio simply calls it teenage humor and doesn't even give it a second thought. Summer and Michael continue the eclectic mix of pop sounds mixing old and new songs that the daily radio show is known for. Brand new music from Alice Peacock is featured from her latest album "Love Remains" along with a live performance from the singer-songwriter's last guest appearance on the broadcast. The Wellingtons remain a favorite band to grace our playlists on The Time Machine. Maui's FM airwaves have had quite a few years of this Aussie group with their previous albums and last year saw the release of "Heading North For The Winter" which landed the band once again on our "Most Played Albums On The Air" for 2008. The line-up includes; drummer Gustav Lindstrom, keyboardist Amy Walters, bassist Kate Goldby and guitar work from both Koji Asano and Zac Anthony. So uncommon that The Time Machine Crew were taken aback by the musical coincidence of having two interviews during the same radio show with both featured Smith among group names. While Morrissey has distanced himself from The Smiths, both Smith & Pyle and The Smith Bros. have embraced it. Missi Pyle and Shawnee Smith released "It's Okay To Be Happy" in 2008 and the duo's album got a great deal of airplay on The Time Machine. FM listeners on Maui were treated to a wonderful album that should grace your music collection. Shawnee Smith was a guest on the radio show and shared with our audience the fun and the craft of putting this album together. The Smith Bros. hail out of Ohio and there is not a single Smith in the band. Mike Clark discussed the second album "Restless" from the group. The Christmas season is here. The Time Machine loves this time of year because music is an important element of this season that touches so many. Artists appreciate the chance to express themselves within their realm or step away with a completely different musical approach.

Another reason that The Time Machine Crew enjoys the holidays is that artists drop in on the FM airwaves of Maui as if your next door neighbor stopped by on Christmas Eve or on Christmas morning after the presents have all been opened. Singer-songwriting pal Gail Swanson also came along to join in on the fun. Lisa released an album this past summer titled "Camp Lisa". Lisa is joined on the album with friends; Michelle Lewis, Dan Petty, Jill Sobule, Steve Martin, Kay Hanley, Maia Sharp, Nina Gordon, Leland Sklar, Jay Bellerose and Doug Petty. Children are also present on this album that will put a warm smile on any fan of music who has memories of summer camp. She shared her thoughts about making the album along with songs from throughout her career.

Singer-songwriter Mike Viola was a guest on The Time Machine last week. Mike's music has long been on our playlists since the nineties. From his own Candy Butchers to film soundtrack work on "That Thing You Do!" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" to his involvement with L.E.O. and The Major Labels, Viola has continued to win our audience over with catchy melodies and killer hooks.

Mike's emotive voice on albums under his own name continues that tradition. His recent album "Lurch" released in late 2007 is an album that needs to be in the collection of every music lover. Outside of his recent work with Bleu and Ducky Carlisle as the rocking trio The Major Labels this year, Mike recently produced and arranged the third album from Kelly Jones titled "SheBANG!", which saw a September release and has filled our airwaves with songs that are simply pure pop bliss. Adam Schlesinger from Ivy and Fountains Of Wayne also co-wrote a song with Kelly for the album. Along with her original songs and a batch of songs written with Mike Viola, this album is already getting some heavy airplay here on the Maui airwaves. The album clocks in at just under 28 minutes and all ten songs are fantastic. So catchy and melodic as if early eighties Marshall Crenshaw and The Bangles decided to work together might give you an idea of what this album full of pop gems sounds like. The album "SheBANG!" can be found at CD Baby and will most likely be one of our most played albums on the air this year joining releases from Rachael Yamagata, The Pretenders, She & Him, Rick Springfield, Randy Newman and of course - The Major Labels.

The Time Machine recently had the band on the air for an interview.

Singer-songwriter Irene Cara has a new album coming out towards the end of the year titled "Irena Cara Presents Hot Caramel". The two disc set features drummer LaFrae Olivia Sci, bassist Donna Hairston, guitarist Sheryl Bailey, singer-songwriter Audrey Martell and the Poindexter sisters - Reina Yvonne Poindexter on vocals and bassist/singer-songwriter Errica Poindexter. Along with Irene, these gifted artists make up the band Hot Caramel. The first single from the upcoming album is "How Can I Make U Love Me" and Irene gave us the opportunity to play the song at the end of summer. While hanging out at Kaanapali beach on Maui, Irene took the time to be our musical guest on The Time Machine, sharing exciting future plans for Hot Caramel and wonderful insightful stories from the past.

Summer Blue, Jenny Leong and Michael McCartney returned to The Time Machine studios after a brief vacation which featured guest DJ Ed Lynn goes into detail on this afternoon FM aircheck. Ed Lynn is the host of the podcast "Suitcase Full Of Dimes" which is one of the finest indie music podcasts online today.

Some of the artists heard on this broadcast were also part of the concert line-up for the International Pop Overthrow in Los Angeles which is still going on. If you're in Southern California this week be sure to check it out. One of our most played artists, Emitt Rhodes, came to see rocker Ken Sharp perform his latest batch of songs.

Ken Sharp (who is pictured above hoisted into the air by Rob Bonfiglio from The Skies Of America and Michael McCartney from The Time Machine) opens up this radio aircheck with a song off of his critically acclaimed album "Sonic Crayons" (Four stars from the hard to please MOJO no less). Other artists from the International Pop Overthrow heard on this broadcast include: The Liking Strikes, Michael Ubaldini, Blake Jones and The Trike Shop, Poplord (it is their song "Wake Up Tired" that this episode lifted for a radio podcast title) and Nushu.

Tom Moffatt Interview

Concert impresario and Hawaii's legendary disc jockey for over fifty years, Tom Moffatt, was our radio guest. Tom was on Maui to promote his upcoming concert with The Stylistics, The Chi-Lites and The Three Degrees. He shared many of his stories from the many diverse musical diverse talents that he has worked with over the decades including Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin and Karen Carpenter. Some of his incredible stories can be found in his book written with Jerry Hopkins titled "The Showman of the Pacific: 50 Years of Radio and Rock Stars". In the photograph with Tom is radio host Kathy Collins who took Tom and our listeners down Memory Lane during the interview.

Another one of those lazy days that have us heading into the studio after snorkeling off the Kaanapali shore off the island of Maui that often results in fun song selections from the past to play alongside the latest music we air on the radio everyday. Host Michael McCartney found himself once again without his co-host Summer Blue to spin tunes on the airwaves (the hosts rotate their thoughts on who is the real slacker in the duo and Summer won that day and decided to continue to snorkel). "The Ed and Greg Show" has been spicing up Maui mornings on WILD 105.5 FM. The KPMW studios finds the Maui Time Weekly's Restless Native a.k.a. Starr Begley dropping by every Monday morning. Starr finally had the nerve to publish her weekly experience at the cost of losing her paycheck. The column below is from the May 22, 2008 issue of Maui Time Weekly. Unless I totally suck at math – actually I kind of do – this past Monday has marked my 10th month on Wild 105.5's The Ed & Greg Show. In my humble and biased opinion, The Ed & Greg Show is the best damn morning show on the island. Wild 105.5 is an independently run station in no way affiliated with the giant Pacific Radio Group. Not that I don't listen to PRG stations, because I do. In fact, if I were a dude, I'm pretty sure that I'd have a thing for Nikki D, who is totally awesome and should really come over one night to play cards and eat boiled peanuts. By the way, Nikki, you need to team up with your co-host Mackie and impose a hostile takeover against Trance. What is this, the Yakuza? Strength in numbers, girlfriend, strength in numbers. But when the Zoo Crew is busy pushing lawnmowers up Dairy Road, pretending to be homosexual Indians, making Nikki wear a bikini in the freezing cold or dressing Mackie in an elf costume , we on The Ed and Greg Show are busy talking about real Maui issues like skanky first graders, drug addled parents, using Photoshop to make your kids cuter than they are, hunting ghosts in Waikapu, why it's better to let your teenage daughter get pregnant rather than hand her a condom, gambling and why I love it, why we're cool with Kendall Grove admitting to smoking pot and being a role-model to our kids, how neither Ed or Greg has ever smoked a bowl in their life, the difference between a "moke" and a "local", boobs – small boobs, big boobs, saggy boobs, fake boobs, pierced boobs–how to purchase a butt-plug for your husband, the environment, politics, what a narrow-minded conservative Greg is, how ignorant I am, how it's humanly possibly for Ed to be such a complete arse when it comes to MMA fighting, how unfortunate it is that men who kick off their slippers and shout, "What faka, like go?" in parking lots turn me on, the rise and fall of the stripper pole in my house, how it makes me homicidal and pissy to be called "girly girl," wrestling and how fake-yet-awesome it is, haoles, how Oprah is definitely the anti-Christ and how Google is planning world domination. On my very first segment (I appear on the show every Monday at 10 a.m.), I was scared out of my mind. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I suffered intestinal upset from the stress. To make matters worse, Ed and Greg immediately went off on Holoholo Girl (my supervisor at the time)–who was listening to the show . I totally got busted for it when I got back to the office. But I've kept going back week after week and I think that the three of us have gelled and bounce insults off of each other quite nicely. Either that or I've just gotten used to making an ass of myself on air. Probably the latter. *Starr Begley just went and upset everybody again. "I would like everyone to be careful not to turn Memorial Day into another Veterans Day. I can see this slowly happening as each year passes. I am a veteran and it seems I get more attention on Memorial Day than I do on Veterans Day. That truly saddens me."

Another Voggy Day In Paradise

Kīlauea is an active volcano in the Hawaiian Islands, one of five shield volcanoes that together form the Island of Hawaii. In Hawaiian, the word kīlauea means "spewing" or "much spreading", in reference to the mountain's frequent outpouring of lava. Issuing lava continuously since January 1983, Kīlauea is currently the most active volcano on the planet, an invaluable resource for volcanologists, and also the planet's most visited active volcano. Kīlauea is the most recent of a series of volcanoes that have created the Hawaiian Archipelago, as the Pacific Plate has moved and is moving over the Hawaii hotspot (see Lō'ihi Seamount). The plate under Kilauea, crosses over a hotspot of land which causes them to crash together and therefore errupt.

Every now and then, volcanic ash ends in the air and can often cover the entire island chain with "vog" which has a look and feel of smog and sometimes fog. It can be a health risk if the the vog is thick. The following FM aircheck has a health warning issued on the airwaves of Maui which is the closest island to the volcanic activity of the "big island" of Hawaii. The warning could be familiar to those who live in cities that issue smog alerts.

Singer-Songwriter Seth Swirsky along with Mike Ruekberg are the multi-talented duo behind The Red Button. Seth was a guest on The Time Machine and discussed the album "She's About To Cross My Mind" that is filled with so many musical gems that the album became one of our most played albums on the air for 2007. In addition to The Red Button, Seth also talked about his solo work and his many records composed for other artists like; Rufus Wainwright, Taylor Dayne, Al Green, Jane Weidlin, Michael McDonald, Celine Dion, The Poppies, Xscape, Olivia Newton-John, Charles & Eddie, Smokey Robinson, Brenda K. Starr, Trey Lorenz, Bonfire, Air Supply, Faith Evans and Tina Turner. In addition to getting the chance to compose songs with Eric Carmen, Seth is also a published best selling author ("Baseball Letters" from 1996, "Every Pitcher Tells A Story" from 1999 and "Something To Write Home About" from 2003) and a film maker. His documentary film "A Year In The Life" is set for a summer release and consists of interviews he had done with his hand-held camera with people who had a story about themselves and The Beatles. Our very own Kurt Jo has been making quite a splash since last fall when he was approached...okay...woken up from a deep sleep on a subway train in the Big Apple. In addition to his his daily musical duties on the air with us in Hawaii, DJ Kurt Jo has been spinning music around NYC and enjoying his additional career as a model with Ugly New York. He's had quite a number of photo shoots and appearences on the television screen including "Nightline" and "Rachel Ray". Kurt's latest triumph can be seen in this month's issue of MAXIM Magazine. You can't miss it on the magazine racks as Avril Lavigne is on the cover. Be sure to pick up a copy.

Lily Wilson Performance On The Time Machine

Some of her earlier material were on the air before 2003 and including her stint with Bumpus has made her one of our core artists who keeps delievering one wonderful recorded performance after another. Her approach to songs from other artists like Joni Mitchell , George Harrison and Judy Sill have kept her five year stronghold in place on our radio dial. Add in her work with other artists as varied as; Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Toots & The Maytalls, Ben Lee, Rhett Miller, Bill Deasey, Ray LaMontagne, Chris Holmes, Jason Mraz, Bright Eyes and Mandy Moore...it appears that she will continue to be on our playlists for years to come. Her debut release "Happenstance" produced by John Alagia kept pulling in our listeners and locking her status as "most played artist" right up until the end of 2007. Perfect timing for us because her sophomore release (also produced by John Alagia) is scheduled to come out in 2008. We have no doubt that Rachael will continue her streak based on the upcoming songs that we've heard.
